📣 Submissions Now Open!

Posted by Philip Mong'are Achoki on 2025-04-01

We’re excited to announce that the Essex Student Journal (ESJ) is now accepting submissions for publication in our current Issue.

The ESJ is a peer-reviewed, open access academic journal dedicated to publishing the work written by current Essex undergraduate and postgraduate taught students within the past year. Submissions will also be accepted from undergraduate or postgraduate taught students who have graduated as long as their work was written whilst they were a student and within the past year.

We welcome submissions from all disciplines, including essays, research papers, case studies, academic blog posts, conference papers, reviews, and creative writing in the form of short fiction or poetry. Whether you're an undergraduate, postgraduate, or recent graduate, this is your chance to turn your hard work into a published piece of academic writing.

Why publish with the ESJ?

  • Gain experience in academic publishing
  • Strengthen your CV or postgraduate applications
  • Engage with peer review and develop your academic writing skills
  • Contribute to the University’s growing body of student research

We intend for submissions to remain open until the summer. The exact deadline will depend on how many submissions we get between now and then. It could be safer to start your submission process on the system sooner than later as we'll contact anyone who has started but not completed a submission on the system before we close to ensure they have a chance to submit.

Ready to submit?

For a comprehensive overview of the word limits, style guidelines, and other essential requirements, please see the Submission Checklist. For any questions or guidance, feel free to contact us at journal@essex.ac.uk

We can’t wait to read your work and celebrate the incredible research happening across the University of Essex. Get writing—and get published!
