Publication Fees

This journal is a Diamond Open Access journal, which means there are no Article Publishing Charges and no paywalls. 

Publication Cycle

This journal publishes continuously all year round. Each volume corresponds with the academic year, running from October - September. Special issues may be published as and when relevant content arises. All publications of the Essex Student Journal are indexed within Google Scholar.

Peer review

All content published with the Essex Student Journal is peer reviewed. All peer review is completed by PhD students at the University of Essex. Guidance for peer reviewers is available here.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal. See below for more information on licences, and details of alternative licences.
  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.

The Essex Student Journal uses the CC BY 4.0 licence by default, and encourages authors to choose this option on submission.

You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original. No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
  • CC BY-ND 4.0

You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. NoDerivatives — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.
