The Essex Student Journal (ESJ) is proud to announce the return of its annual conference, taking place on Wednesday 30 April, from 2pm to 4.30pm in the Ivor Crewe Seminar Room. The conference will also run online, ensuring that as many people as possible can join us to celebrate student writing and publishing at Essex.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this conference offers a dynamic platform for our authors—students who have published with ESJ—to present their research, share their experiences, and connect with peers, staff, and members of the wider community. The programme will feature presentations from across a range of disciplines, including research papers, case studies, essays, and creative writing pieces. A networking session will follow, allowing attendees to continue the discussion informally while enjoying refreshments kindly provided by Cambridge University Press.
For a closer look at how the conference evolved and grew from last year’s edition, and for insights into what to expect this year, read Hannah Crago’s blog post on the University of Essex website. In the post, Hannah highlights the vital role that publishing and presenting play in amplifying student voices and reflect on the importance of open access in fostering a diverse, vibrant research community.
Spaces are limited, so if you’re interested in experiencing the breadth of student research and creativity at Essex, book your place now. Whether you attend in person or online, we look forward to welcoming you to the Essex Student Journal Conference 2025.
